Joshua Hicks Calls for Removal of
Anti-LGBTQ Teacher

JACKSONVILLE, FL – Today the Florida Times-Union reported that a Duval Schools teacher continued to post bigoted memes mocking the LGBTQ community after he was investigated for refusing to abide by a transgender teenager’s pronouns. The district is conducting a new inquiry into the teacher’s latest social media posts.
Joshua Hicks issued the following statement in reaction to this new development:

“The Duval Schools investigation can only end in one outcome: removing Mr. Caggiano from his position as a public-school teacher. The anti-LGBTQ views he espouses have no place in our public schools, and we should never tolerate a teacher who discriminates against students.

This is a symptom of a larger problem in Florida. We still send taxpayer dollars to private schools that discriminate against LGBTQ students, parents, and teachers. Unlike Representative Byrd, I’ll bring people together in Tallahassee to ensure every student and teacher is welcomed for who they are. I’ll always fight for the marginalized and put people first.”
